About the Tour
Held in the country’s first cocoa-producing region, this tour is a combination of nature, beaches, and culture. Accommodation is in Serra Grande, a natural area between Ilhéus and Itacaré, along a coastline of coves, fine sandy beaches, and hills covered with tropical vegetation.
Day 1 – Ilhéus / City Tour / Serra Grande (32 km)
In the early afternoon, meet at Ilhéus airport and depart for a city tour of the former cocoa capital, birthplace of writer Jorge Amado and the fourth largest city in the State of Bahia, with over 200,000 inhabitants. After the visit, transfer to Serra Grande beach. Accommodation in a seaside inn. Late afternoon free for rest or a swim. Meals not included.
Day 2 – Serra Grande / Itacaré / Rio de Contas Expedition
In the morning, departure to the village of Itacaré and Coroinha Beach. Boat ride up the Rio de Contas in traditional wooden canoes (approx. 1h15), arriving at São Jorge’s cocoa plantation. Walk through the cocoa trees and tropical forest (approx. 45 minutes) to reach a 35-meter waterfall forming a natural pool amid lush vegetation. Stop for a swim and continue to a resting area with hammocks among the oil palms. Lunch not included. Mid-afternoon, return to the inn. Late afternoon free to enjoy the beach. Dinner not included.
Day 3 – Serra Grande / Cocoa Tour
In the morning, light walk (approx. 2 hours) along the coastal vegetation to visit a family-run cocoa production site. Learn about artisanal techniques of cocoa extraction and chocolate making. Taste fresh cocoa juice and return to the inn by late morning. Lunch not included. Free afternoon for rest and swimming. Dinner not included.
Day 4 – Serra Grande / Ilhéus
Morning free for rest and swimming. Lunch not included. Afterwards, transfer to Ilhéus Airport for departure procedures.
