About the Tour
Taking place in the country's first cocoa-growing region, this tour combines nature, beaches, and culture. Accommodation is in Serra Grande, a natural setting between Ilhéus and Itacaré, a coastline comprised of coves, fine-sand beaches, and hills covered in tropical vegetation.
Day 1: Ilheus/Tour in the Village/Serra Grande (32 km)
In the early afternoon, meet and greet at Ilhéus airport and depart for a tour of the former cocoa capital, the birthplace of writer Jorge Amado and the fourth-largest city in the state of Bahia, with over 200,000 inhabitants. After the visit, transfer to Serra Grande beach. Accommodation at the beachfront inn. The afternoon is free for relaxation or a swim. Meals are not included.
Day 2: Serra Grande/Itacaré/Expedition along the Contas River
In the morning, departure for the village of Itacaré and Coroinha Beach. Travel up the Contas River in wooden canoes (1 hour and 15 minutes) to the São Jorge cocoa plantation. Walk through cocoa trees and the rainforest (approximately 45 minutes) to reach a 35-meter-high waterfall, which forms a natural pool amidst lush vegetation. Stop for a swim and continue to a rest area with hammocks in the oil palm trees. Lunch is free. In the mid-afternoon, return to the lodge. Late afternoon free to enjoy the beach. Dinner is free.
Day 3: Serra Grande/Cocoa Tour
In the morning, a 2-hour walk through the coastal vegetation to boost family cocoa production. Learn about artisanal cocoa extraction and chocolate-making techniques. Enjoy a cocoa juice tasting and return to the inn late morning. Lunch is free. The afternoon is free for relaxation and a swim. Dinner is free.
Day 4: Serra Grande/Ilhéus
Free morning for relaxation and a swim. Lunch is at your leisure. Afterwards, transfer to Ilhéus Airport for boarding arrangements.
